Hang In There

Hang In There

My dad had a saying for most everything
Words of wisdom tied-up in a phrase
He’d sing them all in little songs
The Do’s, the Don’ts, the Rights, the Wrongs
And he lived them through his final days

Sometimes when the world gets rough they have a way of popping up
And in my mind I can hear him say

It’s more the going than the get there
And you can’t know it until you’ve been there
It’s a long, long life, you’ve got time to get it right
But you gotta hang in there, hang in there

There’s a man who lives on the streets of Nashville
And he smiles like there’s a secret that he knows
Well, he used to be a millionaire, kept it all locked in his Frigadare
But when his house burned down it all when up in smoke

Now you might see him anywhere
He’ll smile at you and offer a prayer
They say he’s crazy, I just think he knows

It’s more the going than the get there
And you can’t know it until you’ve been there
It’s a long long life, you’ve got time to get it right
But you gotta hang in there, hang in there

There’s a star falling through the night sky
With a wink it passes beyond the moon
Going out with one last burst across the unknown universe
As it goes it hums this little tune

It’s more the going than the get there
And you can’t know it until you’ve been there
It’s a long long life, you’ve got time to get it right
But you gotta hang in there, hang in there
